Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, had crucial and lasting contributions to almost all the aspects that the human knowledge is subjected to, starting with logic to biology to aesthetics, physics and ethics. Aristotle remains to be the most influential person in the Western world due to his significant efforts in the above-described fields.
Aristotle started a school at the Lyceum in Greece that was the mother of the world’s initial understandable study concerning the knowledge of humans basing on the perspective of natural philosophy. In addition, he added to the heavenly bodies a fifth element, aether. He gave the world a universe with laws that were invariant and capable of being identified through observation and comprehensive through thinking (Reeve, 2014). The efforts by Aristotle led to the discovery of many heavenly bodies that makes the universe. The modern Astronomy forms its foundation from the discoveries of Aristotle. Aristotle contributions to the proving of that the earth is spherical led to other discoveries like the rotation and revolution of the earth. Scholars like Pythagoras improved on Aristotle’s work to come up with the Pythagoras theorem (Jowett, 2000). In rhetoric and poetics, Aristotle plays a major role in laying the foundation. For example, in advising orators on how to handle the moods of their audience, he teaches on the systematic and the right treatment of people emotions. In poetics, Aristotle tries to bring out the intended message by revealing the material objects as explained in the poems. He gives the poets a way by which they can use material objects to describe a real living thing or make the non-living thing compared to the reality. The effective practising of poetry enables actors in dramas to perform excellently. The use of logic is also applicable in poetry in the creation of rhymes.
