To begin, my academic goal is to graduate from Arizona State University in May of 2018 with a B.S. in Political Science and a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with two areas of concentration in (1) Justice Studies and (2) Sociology. In my first semester at Arizona State University I achieved a term GPA of 4.08 as well as designation on the Dean's List and earned an invitation to the Alpha Iota Sigma Honor Society for achieving academic excellence in Interdisciplinary Studies. While attending Folsom Lake Community College I was inducted into the Beta Mu Upsilon Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society in the spring of 2016 for earning a high academic standing with a class rank in the top 10%. It is for this reason that I am focused on academic excellence, as a tribute to this incredible opportunity that I have been given. In brief, I was born to unmarried teenage parents and raised by a single mother and her brother. Consequently, I have been supporting myself since I was seventeen years old which is the reason for delaying my higher education. I have no siblings, I have never been married and I have worked my entire life to support myself and achieve upward mobility. Hence, at forty-one years old I am embarking on a new adventure with hopes and dreams of a better life, one made possible through higher learning. My life experiences have shaped my perspective on what is most important, and what is most important to me at this age is to guide and mentor future generations with their goals, as well as work to emphasize the importance of a college education. Hopefully by sharing my experiences and hardships through mentoring others I can inspire them discover and reach their full potential.
