Art imitates life. Art is a person's interpretation of how they perceive life, as in their emotions, their culture, and the people around them. Art also holds the important purpose of teaching people about other cultures and empathy. For instance, seeing a play is not solely about entertainment, but the words, acting, and direction also allows us to learn about another person's emotions and truths of life. Seeing or reading a play like Disgraced by Ayad Akhtar or Betrayed by George Packer allows us to peer into the lives of immigrants and refugees allowing us to get a new perspective on how someone else goes through their day. We were searching to discover art from all mediums including paintings, music, theatre, and dance. Currently Europe is facing a rather large refugee crisis. According to Annette Blum in her Huffington Post article titles “The Role of Art in a World Overrun by Refugees Crisis,” “There are more people (nearly 65 million) displaced than in any other time in our generation since World War II.” She goes on to explain that The United Nations estimates that in Syria alone more than 13.5 million people are classified as refugees, and that approximately 5 million of those are externally displaced, meaning they are living outside of their country of origin. The photos were curated by the French-Iranian photographer Reza Deghati and were taken by children living in the camp who are students of the photographer. The photographs provide a “poignant portrait of the inhumanity of camp life,” by highlighting the daily lives, activities, and everyday struggles of the people living in this camp. Two of the most striking photographs show images of a girls frozen shoes on a background of pebbles and a man struggling to wash his hands and face. “I want to show their lives to the entire world and in a universal language,” Reza said during an event at the exhibition,“Those kids have lost the paradise every kid has,”
