Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau was a part of everyday life and can be found in all areas of art and design. The main disciplines were visual art, graphic design, architecture, fashion, furniture and glass.

Alphonse Mucha a Czech painter and artist had a strong influence on the movement. He created an advertisement for the play Gismonda first appearing on the streets of Paris on 1st of January 1895. The advertisement had a distinctive appearance originally called Mucha Style. He went on to work in a variety of disciplines but is for most famous for his commercial posters which could be mass produced.

Sigfriend Bing- Ran the art gallery Maison de l ' Art Nouveau or House of New Art which Art Nouveau is named after.

Aubrey Beardsley- Created Block prints in black ink that were seen as controversial, grotesque and taboo in the Victorian era. …show more content…

Mostly know for his work with glass he also worked in jewellery, enamels and interior design.

Hector Guimard- is an Architect and Designer whose works embody the essence of Art Nouveau. He is one of the most known artists of the French Art Nouveau movement. He designed the entrances to the subway metro which are still standing today.

Victor Horta- is a Belgian innovative and accomplished architect who is seen as a founder of Art Nouveau.

Gustav Klimt- is a famous and controversial Austrian painter. He is seen as a crucial key figure in the rise and fall of the Art Nouveau practice.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh- was a part of the Glasgow four, a group of designers who had a similar art style similar to art nouveau. He was the Architect for the Glasgow school of
