Jackie Robison was born in Cairo, Georgia, on January 31, 1919. He was the youngest of five children, and was raised in poverty. He attended John Muir High School, where he was an excellent athlete and played four sports: football, track, football, and baseball. He was named the region 's Most Valuable Player in baseball in 1938. Jackie continued his education at the University of California where he was the university’s first student to succeed in four sports.

The differences are that David could have been killed in his situation and in Casey’s, he will be safe and will get paid either way. As the young Australian of the year, I would like to discuss an important issue in my speech today, and that is the great folk hero Ned Kelly. There has been a great debate about whether Ned Kelly should stay as an iconic Australian. Australian identity and what constitutes Australian culture are prominent ideas explored by Peter Goldsworthy’s Maestro. Throughout the novel, there is a strong sense of cynicism towards Australian culture as it is painted as ambiguous and indefinite. This is established through the analogy of Paul representing Australian society and his parents representing the British influence on Australian culture. Goldsworthy also explores the European influence on Australia through Kellar’s character. Lawrence Peter Berra, more commonly known as “Yogi,” is considered to be one of the greatest baseball players to ever play the game. One example of it being humorous is when the author made Casey strike out, but everyone thought he was gonna hit the baseball. Another example is the way he goes into detail and describes everything. The author uses humor also when Casey went up to bat and everyone cheered thinking Casey was gonna step up and make them win, or at least get a point or two on the board.
