Religion in the Schools Article Thirteen

This essay will demonstrate the four cases that were examined in the article, Religion in the Schools, and will also illustrate why this is a conflicting issue within the American educational system. How religion within the public school system can discriminate against the minority of individuals who do not conform to the dominant ideology and how religion can affect a student’s performance and achievements.
The article, Religion in the Schools explained the how conflicting religion can be from four different perspectives. The first case, Johnson v. Poway Unified School District, was from a teacher’s perspective and how he believed that his rights were being violated. This particular teacher, Bradley Johnson displayed banners throughout his classroom stating “In God We Trust”, “One Nation Under God” as well as a few other banners. An example would be, the minority of individuals being out casted by the dominant ideology that is displayed. Perhaps, a few individuals believe in one religion, while a larger group believes in a different ideology. These two groups could potentially become enemies and violent over a matter that should be kept out of the public school system. Another problem could be that the grades of a student are affected due to not agreeing with the teacher’s views about religion and the pressure directed towards a student to agree with the teacher. A student that is pressured and feels more stress to fit in will most likely have anxieties and thus performance and achievements by that student can decline. If a student disagrees with the teacher and the teacher feels that they are in the right, then the teacher could potentially damage that student’s grade by failing them or giving them the lowest grade in their
