Amanda Ripley demonstrates the consequences for having school sports in “The Case Against High School Sports” because schools are spending too much money on their sports and can be solved. The author brings to the reader’s eye that sports cost way too much money and should be cut. I think Ripley is wrong because even though it cost a lot of money, they should still keep the sports. If they cut the sports, then it’s not fair to the students that are graduating because they could of had a chance to get a scholarship. If the schools cut the sports, then there is no chance for the students.
(Zimbalist) No one is making the students play a specific sport, they chose to because they enjoy the activity. If the NCAA chose to change their rules and decide to pay athletes, the next question is, is it
Those who support it, argue that student- athletes should be paid because the athletes spend much of their time practicing, and at the same time they require money to pay for their school fees. On the hand, those are against it argue that, if they are paid it would distract them from the love and passion of the game. Although the majority of people
Paying students to play would turn them into employees, shifting their focus away from academics. (“Should College Athletes Be Paid” [Junior Scholastic]) This helps support that the main idea of a college is to teach academics and give them the opportunity to learn. Sports are provided as an extra opportunity for students, not as a job. Additionally, if students shift their focus away from academics, they could miss out on serious things that could help them later in
The Journey of Athena Athena, a well-known Greek Goddess with many powers, a purpose. The Greek goddess of war and wisdom and the protector of Athens. What makes her power or weapons, the miracles’ birth, so well known, the childhood feats that she faced, a journey, a task to prove worthy, nemesis. Her half-brother, Hercules, also a well-known Greek god.
First, getting paid to play sports would benefit the athlete’s school. Schools gain money based on the amount of wins. According to Best Colleges, The University of Yale has gained 18 national titles, and the school has about $42,300,000,000 (1). If athletes got paid to play, they would be motivated to try harder, so that they could earn more money.
These schools also spend six times as much money per athlete than for students. This is not fair to students that are paying to attend a certain university because they are not receiving the full value and benefits that school could offer. Although some people argue that sports bring in donations from boosters and increased applications, cutting just a fraction of the costs of sports would free up thousands of dollars that could be put back into scholarships for students, reducing student
American colleges student athletes getting paid is a highly debated topic. Joe Nocera and Bob Williams argue this issue, in the article “should college athletes be paid.” Although the athletes are making money for the school, college athletes should not get paid because the students are getting their college paid for, and paying students to play would shift their focus away from academics. Student athletes put in many hours of work for the team and school. In the article, it states “Indeed, they often do not get much of an education because the team comes.
Educate Do Not Compensate In an article by Jim Delany and Andrea Williams it states “College sports is one of the of the biggest things going on in March”. Although some people think that college athletes should get paid for all the work they put into the sport for the school on their jersey. It is a big discussion since they are not pro-athletes and that only professionals should get paid. This may be a problem because of the schools tuition and not all schools would be able to pay the athletes.
In addition to all the practice, games, training, and traveling the student athletes still need to work hard as students (Cooper). A final reason as to why they should get paid is due to the fact that the students don’t go to college for an education they go to play sports. It is shown that they go to college to play sports because the coaches of the teams are given incentives to convince the students to go to class. Thus showing that the students are only interested in their athletics and not their
If participates were required to pay a fee to engage in school sports then it would allow for better equipment, traveling opportunities, and better involvement with the sport. Better equipment could be provided with the money from the pay-to-play plan, with better equipment comes better practice, skills, and more enjoyment. Also, more traveling opportunities could be provided if schools were to take up the pay-to-play policy. The players could go to more tournaments, play more games, and have great time while doing so. Additionally, the earnings from the plan could lead to more opportunities to get involved or have fun.
High School Sports Should be Funded Every year 300,000 students are participating in sports (Gould 1). The School District has been funding the athletics program, which has been benefiting many of the students’ lives for several years. The discontinuation of high school sports will cause many students to loose the health, social and educational benefits provided by participating in athletics. The School District should continue to fund sports because they benefit students.
Student athletes can’t receive professional perks for example sponsorship deal from Nike and being paid from the sponsor to wear Nike shoes or clothing, so why should the colleges pay the athletes for playing, If we start to pay college athletes it will affect other parts of the colleges for the reason that budget cuts will have to happen to be able to pay the athletes. if we decide to pay college athletes there is no way to be fair when paying student athletes, because do you pay all the players the same amount of money or do you create an open market-based system. An open market-based system would allow supply and demand to come in to play which would allow colleges to pay players on their playing abilities. This would change the way college athletes make their decisions on where they will choose to go, because they go where more of the money is, this would change the way high school kids would select where they
College athletes already get their education free why should they get paid for playing a sport they love playing. What do you think, should college athletes get paid for playing the sport there in? Well I don’t think so and in this paper I will tell you and give you reasons why they shouldn’t be paid. College athletes are already getting a free education they shouldn’t be allowed to be paid. Sports can enhance the cooperative and strategic strategies. The passage states that, “understanding the competitive process entails an appreciation of the social nature of competition, particularly with regard to the cooperative and strategic aspects of sports and an awareness of the nature of individual roles within a cooperating group.” The last reason, which it the academic benefits, proves that you shouldn’t take away the sports for school. The kids that play sports benefit in the classroom a lot more than regular students.
