The Article of Confederation was the first national government to be made for the US. With this form of government, the country seem to be falling apart. The country was weak on “financial difficulties, military weaknesses, massive debt and the lack of cooperation.” With these problems they are having, they began noticing to notice that the country was about to collapse. So they convinced the leaders of the 13 states to change them. They try making changes to the first constitution but it was not successful so they created a brand new Constitution. This new Constitution was divided by the state and national government. The national government has been divided up to 3 powers that are judicial, executive and legislative. This has been the oldest Constitution for 226 years. The Constitution has created a strong national government by limiting the powers to each branch and having federal offices. They divided up the powers in the national government into 3 different ones which are judicial, legislative and executive that are responsible for the powers that are given to them. For example, the legislative branch is allow to “create laws, make money, raise taxes, and raise a military” (Doc 2), whereas the other branches can not do that. This tells us that the government is assigning what branch to do so that one branch doesn’t overpower the other. There are also powers reserved to the states which are “Any power that is not given to the federal government belongs to the state governments” (Doc 5).
