Chad Satchell Fine Art Music Ryan Lewis June 19, 2016 Article Review I will be reviewing an article that reviewed a performance of the musical Wicked fromt the Dallas Summer Musicals this year. I saw this years production at the Dallas Summer Musicals on May 14. The article can be found at this link: http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2016/04/28/review-dsms-wicked/ This is the fifth time Wicked has been back in action and, as always, it was another huge success. This musical is a staple of musical performances everywhere, I have yet to met anyone who hasn’t at least heard of it even if they haven’t seen it yet. The first time I saw this play was on a theater trip to New York in sixth grade. We got to see the second cast of Wicked on Broadway and it was incredible. This was my second viewing of the musical and, even though I saw it over a month ago, I still can’t get the songs out of my head. The musical style chosen for this show is the perfect complement to the story being told. As any good soundtrack does, you have a kind of theme melody for the various characters and/or locations. The wicked witch, Elphaba, has a mysterious tone that is light in the beginning but is subtly changed to be more ominous as she is made out to be the villain. “It took me awhile to get into Wicked” Christopher said, “but once that happened, it was an enthralling and thought-provoking experience. After a somewhat slow and lackluster ACT I that had weak attempts at humor, Act II was fantastic, like night and day.” Frankly, I heartily disagree with this. Act I has some of the best songs in the whole show in my opinion. The opening song, No One Mourns the Wicked, is incredible and sets the tone leading into the whole show.
