The Articles of Confederation and Constitution During the revolutionary war, a document was created called the Articles of Confederation. It was created to have more of a unified government for the colonies. Later, a new document was needed to have these states come together as one nation which was called the United States Constitution. There were many problems with the Articles of Confederation, in which we needed a Constitution to help resolve these problems. The Great Compromise was the most important in the Constitution and was also called the Connecticut Compromise according to ThoughtCo., they combined two plans. The first plan was the Virginia Plan which was made for representation to be based on each state's population. The second plan was the New Jersey plan which provided equal representation for every state. It was then later decided to have two chambers of Congress according to Document 6, it was the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate had equal representations and two senators from each state. The House of Representatives was based on the population of states and the number of representatives varies between each state.
