The artifact that was chosen for this project was basketball. Basketball is a sport that I came to know at a young age in school and it was very entertaining and fun to participate in. Basketball is a game played between two teams of five players in which goals are scored by throwing a ball through a netted hoop fixed above each end of the court. People today know basketball as a competitive sport being the NBA. But before I go into the NBA I want to talk about how basketball came to be. He needed a game that could be played indoors in a relatively small space. The first game was played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets used as goals. From Naismith’s solution to his problem this activity was presented to another YMCA’s. This led to the activity being blown up and to be used as a daily activity all over the world and leading to it becoming a sport. The NBA stands for National Basketball Association, but before it became to be known as that, it was founded originally as the “Basketball Association of America”. The NBA originated in 1946 with 11 teams, and through a sequence of team expansions, reductions, and relocations currently consists of 30 teams. The United States is home to 29 teams and one is in Canada. Basketball has been here for a very long time especially coming up through American history. A dynamite of history was made during those time periods in the 1800s and 1900s and the legends within the sport still lives on even until this day. Basketball is one of the most popular sports in America, and only a few of the NBA stars are considered great.
