Artificial lights have helped illuminate homes, yards, shops, etc. for years. Though the use of it is very beneficial to everyday life, if not taken into consideration light pollution can come into play and be wasted. Light pollution is caused when artificial light is released into areas that have no use for artificial light. One of the negative effects that light pollution has on the earth is that it’s throwing the earth's ecosystem out of whack. When you're in the city at night and you look up at the sky to see stars shining down you’ll probably be disappointed. Light pollution is very common in highly populated areas due to all the artificial light used by the mass amount of people. The street lights used to illuminate the streets and sidewalks are another example of light pollution. They may light the streets, but there's no cover for the lights so the light shines upward where it’s unneeded. This a large problem in not only major cities, but in small towns as well. In my small town of Sebewaing we use similar streetlights that don’t have the top covers on them. The solution to this problem is another simple one, and that is to just put covers over top of the lamps so that the light is directed downward and avoids shining in the sky. Light pollution may not be a very big issue, but it is definitely a real issue. The best way to deal with this is to remove unnecessary lights, and redirect light so that it’s not being wasted. Light pollution has been proven to influence the migratory patterns of different animals. The biggest known problem with light pollution is that it has widely affected the patterns of sea turtles leading them in the wrong direction keeping them from going to the ocean. The solution to this problem is a very easy one, but if attention is not brought to the public no action will ever be
