The thought of an “artistic impaction” sounds like an artwork created by impaction, but that is not what is means. Can artists impact the world and how can artists impact the world? Can they: yes, artists can impact the world, and how: in more ways than one. There are many different forms of art and even more ways to express things through artwork. Artists are able to create various things through the help of creativity, imagination, and inspiration. Art is not all that far fetched. Although, it does “communicate meanings that go far beyond ordinary verbal exchange, and artists use the entire range of thought, feeling, and observation as the subjects of their art” (Frank 3). “[Artists have provided] a visual account of an event or a person, or by expressing an opinion, artists have shaped not only the way people understand their own world but also how their culture is viewed by others” (Frank 23). This is a an example of commentary art, where the artist's “primary goal [is] communication between artist and viewer by means of subject matter” (Frank 23). “[C]ommentaries often include personal judgements on conditions, facts, or politics” (Frank 24). A good example of this is artwork titled Occupy LA Mural. It made “such a statement about our contemporary economy” (Frank 24). The artist incorporated a depiction of the government and economy at the time, as well as today’s. The piece contains an impressionist piece of the Federal Reserve Bank disguised as an evil-looking octopus with sharp teeth and it is greedily grabbing at various objects. “It grasps the city, bundles of cash, and a foreclosed home in its tentacles [and it contains] the top-hatted man from the Monopoly board game[, who] announces, ‘You’re bankrupt!’” (Frank 24). The textbook explains that the image “likely oversimplifies the causes of the 2008 economic downturn” (Frank 24).
