Artistic Expression of Caring The evolution of professional nursing continues to grow, and so does the importance of caring in the nursing profession. There are many research articles and healthcare organizations that attempt to give their definition of caring, but the concept of caring in nursing is more intricate than one realizes. Often time, caring is defined on a personal level and to understand the true meaning, it should not be generalized. For example, Doctor Bishop recounts her story of the act of kindness she experienced when she first learned she had breast cancer, and how her “personal lessons in empathy” allowed her to see the true meaning of caring (Bishop, 2015). This paper will define caring on a personal level and will demonstrate this definition with the explanation of my personal artistic expression of caring.

Caring in the nursing profession is important because an empathetic nurse can affect a patient’s outcome. Moreover, an empathetic nurse will see the patient as a whole, and not just another body needing repair.
