While individuals who end up getting sent to prison have many issues to look forward to, one of the biggest issues they have to deal with is who or how will they get classified. While they in-processed into the jail system, the incoming inmate has to form some sort of allegiance towards their own race. Whites, hang out with whites, Hispanics with Hispanics and African Americans with African Americans. Street gang members who had issues outside of the wire fence, no longer have issues while being inside. Inmates of the same race come together as one to fight off others. Strength in numbers. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the gang makes up less than 0.1% of the prison population, but it is responsible for up to 30% of murders in the federal prison system. With no known founder, the Aryan Brotherhood started in 1967 in San Quentin State Facility. Some of their identifiers are the Shamrock clover leaf, Swastikas, double lightning bolts and the number 666. Unlike the BGF, they have an active working relationship with The Mexican Mafia, therefore making La Nuestra Familia part of the opposing team. Since they are a white supremacist prison gang, they have a hate towards the BGF, Crips and the Bloods. Part of the recruitment/initiation process is that they have to be white, have a lifelong allegiance towards the Aryan Brotherhood and an oath of “Blood in, blood out” must be taken. Meaning, in order to become part of the gang they must conduct a “hit” on a rival gang member and to leave they must kill or be killed. The Aryan Brotherhood is a completely different organization from the Texas Aryan Brotherhood. The Texas Aryan Brotherhood is comprised of members who were not accepted into the Aryan Brotherhood.
