Darl knows that Jewel is not Anse’s son, but rather, the result of an affair between Addie and Whitfield. Darl refers to it in many ways, such as pointing out Jewel’s height difference: “He is a head taller than any of the rest of us, always was” (16). Darl also indicates more directly that his mother had something to hide regarding Jewel: “And that may have been when I first found it out, that Addie Bundren should be hiding anything she did” (115). Darl says that because she deceived her husband and family by having the affair, she had to “act the deceit” (115), by loving Jewel. Darl never reveals Jewel’s illegitimacy, because he knows how damning this could be to his mother’s memory.
Joseph Boyden’s novel Three Day Road demonstrates how effective betrayal is at destroying our hopes and beliefs. Both brief relationships involved a coming together of the two races and both of them ended in disappointment for Niska and Xavier, but not necessarily for the trapper or Lisette. Niska is betrayed by the French fur trader, a betrayal that echoes the betrayal of indigenous groups by the first colonists. The French man reveals to Niska,” [He] took [her] ahcahk,” (Boyden 174).
His mother doesn’t hesitate to inform Editha of her view of the fatality and impropriety of her actions. For a brief moment, Editha seemed to understand the gravity of her actions. The revelation causes her to understand where she went wrong with her choices. Sadly, this is a realization that is short-lived. When Editha’s companion states that the words and actions of Mrs. Greason were vulgar, Editha feels that her guilt is lifted and she reverts back to her idealistic thinking.
Literature frequently explores themes of betrayal. By depicting Santiago Nasar’s death in his book “Chronicle of a Death Foretold,” Gabriel Garcia Marquez paints a moving image of betrayal. The central plot of “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” is based around Santiago Nasar’s betrayal, which Marquez depicts to show that the town has no morals and does not care about the lives of others when it is not benefiting them. Nanny who has been Janie’s caretaker has several hopes and dreams for her granddaughter. Nanny is not entirely perfect at her job of raising Janie, since her dreams for her are clouded by her own scarring experiences. Nanny attempts to insure a better life for Janie by forcing her to marry Logan Killicks, an old and wealthy man. Blinded by her own dreams, hopes, and desires, Nanny makes many impositions on Janie, “Have some sympathy fuh me. Put me down easy, Janie, Ah’m a cracked plate” (Hurston 20).
In The First Betrayal Josan, a man who works in a lighthouse finds himself in the midst of a violent storm. Consequently the disheartening storm threatens to destroy the light in the tower, causing the ships to crash into the rocks. In the passage- The First Betrayal, Patricia Bray’s use of harsh diction and vivid imagery creates a mood of suspense. For instance, the author’s use of word choice illustrates a tone of fear.
William Faulkner explored the idea of family relationships extensively and was distinctly aware of the destructive possibilities of such intimate and trusting relationships. Manipulative parental figures play a crucial role in causing dysfunctional families. In As I Lay Dying, manipulation of family is clearly displayed by Anse. This is seen specifically near the end of the book when Anse says, “Meet the new Mrs. Bundren”. He has replaced their mother at the end of a long and grueling journey.

The family travels on an expedition to bury Addie, the deceased mother of the protagonist, Darl Bundren, and his siblings. As days continue to pass, however, the journey seemed interminable. During the adventure, the family takes a stop at Gillespie’s barn for the evening. While they rest Darl sets the barn, in which the coffin sits, ablaze.
My book report was about a horrible tragedy that happened on April 20 1999 it was called the columbian high school shooting it was absolutely horrendous and terrible no parent or family should have to go through what these families did 13 were killed and 24 wounded it went on for 2 days i couldn't imagine the pain and suffering those families went through not knowing if there loved ones were dead, wounded, or just hiding i couldn’t deal with that i wouldn’t be able to handle all the thoughts racing through my head or even trying to wrap my head around how two high school boys (Dylan Klebold 17 killed 5 and Eric Harris 18 he killed 8) could do such a thing to people they see everyday like it was a walk in the park they planned it all out for
Undoubtedly, one of the most substantial and off-putting narrative characters, is Anse- the husband of Addie. Addie dies early on in the book and wishes to be buried in a farther off town; it is the husband’s job to complete his wife’s final wish. Out loud he talks about his “duty” to his wife: to give her what she wants, but in his own POV he is partly doing it to get his “well-deserved”
