Ashe’s Of Rose’s The novel Ashes of Roses by Mary Jane Auch describes the lives of young immigrantt kids in America living in New York City in 1911. While the main characters are from Ireland they meet people from all around the world who have different experiences and world views. Initially, the character of Rose is depicted as an immigrant from Ireland who just came off Ellis Island. She seems very innocent and gullible going around looking for jobs. Rose was wandering the streets of New York At night. And when she got home was scowled about how hazardous the roads are. Elsa is mad that she was walking around the streets of New York alone at night and how anything could happen: "'We've all been frantic. We thought something terrible had happened to you. Your mother says you went out to find work? Why would you do such a foolish thing when when you don't know anything about the city? Why didn't ask my advice" (83) Once Rose comes home she sees Ma and Elsa, Ellsa and Ma were worried about what might of happened to her, Elsa scowled at her about how treacherous the streets are moreover with how she misjudged the roads. Rose is at Mr.Moscivits shop Tessa is teaching her how to put together the rose steam: "'He gave my shoulder a squeeze as he moved on "You mustn,t let him do that," Tessa whispered when he was out of earshot" (78) Tessa warns Rose about Mr.Mostivicz but Rose is too naive about how she should be careful but Rose. …show more content…
Ma said that Rose is allowed to live in America but Maureen wanted to go too and Ma was so tired of America so she let her. Now Rose is responsible for Maureen. Rose has come for her coat and pay at Mr. Mosivit's shop after she got assaulted there: "'This belongs to me," I said. Then I walked right up to him and held out my hand.
