There are some people that believe he was actually enlightened. However, based on his expanding empire, his greed, and forcing people to follow his rules, Asoka is a ruthless conqueror. Asoka was a ruthless ruler because he was responsible for killing a lot of people. According to the map of document A it states,” Asoka invaded Kalinga in 261 BCE.
1 People have been arguing that Ashoka, a Buddhist was a Ruthless leader or Enlightened ruler. I will be proving you that Ashoka was a Enlightened ruler by rejecting violence, better government, and making strict laws and it made others happy. 2 To start off, Ashoka was enlightened because he rejected violence after conquering Kalinga. “He felt a great crisis and stirring remorse”.
However, he warns that he may conquer them if they don’t agree. Although this seems vicious, it shows that he wants peace with other tribes. Also, historians believe that Asoka was the first important ruler to promote Buddhism. His messengers traveled as far as Egypt, Sri Lanka, Syria, and Greece to spread Dharma. This further supports that Asoka was an enlightened
Many people may say that Asoka was a ruthless conqueror because of his conquest of Kalinga which was a bloody battle where many people died and many more were driven out of their country, but I bet the evidence I will show you will make you believe he was an enlightened ruler. From 268 BCE to 232 BCE Asoka was the ruler of the Mauryan Empire, which is now known as India. During that time many of his actions shows that he was enlightened. First, the conquest of Kalinga which many people think was ruthless was something that the Mauryan people needed so I believe that battle was one of an enlightened ruler rather than a ruthless conqueror. Asoka can also be considered an enlightened ruler because he went on a pilgrimage looking for a teacher and after finding a Buddhist monk and following his instructions he was able to understand history, reject violence, and form ideas that had never been thought of before.
Throughout the course of history, there have been many powerful rulers who have led supreme empires and kingdoms. The Mauryan Empire, a vast empire in Ancient India, had some rulers who wrongfully used their power. However, Asoka, ruler of the Mauryan Empire from 268 to 232 BCE, was enlightened because he deeply cared for his people, was extremely remorseful of his wrongdoings in his actions, and valued everyone despite their differences or what they have done in the past. Asoka was an enlightened ruler because he was willing to go beyond the unspoken limits to care for his empire and its residents' well being.
Buddha intended and had his sermons toward large audiences, which would be towards laborers or people in lower classes so that his sermons would have mass appeal. In Document 2 there was political statements from Zhi Dun that stated that Buddhism’s only purpose was to deliver a sense of protection to the lower class people who were afraid. Zhi Dun was a Chinese scholar, which is a class held high in Chinese society, so his views toward Buddhism did not reflect the ideas of the masses of people who believed Buddhist
The Anonymous Chinese Scholar defended Buddhism even with his possibly high status in society, due to his obvious literacy. (Doc. 3) He was trying to encourage religions to coexist with one another. The document suggests Buddhist’s were put under more pressure to present evidence that they’re worthy enough to coexist with Confucianism or Islam. He most likely kept his identity a secret, due to fear of persecution. This document was written in 500 CE, between the Han and Sui Dynasties, when there was no dynasty set in tact.
Verdict of the Trial of Genghis Khan. After the trial had taken place, I decided that Genghis Khan and the Mongols were uncivilized. During the time of the trial I learned much more of the brutality that had taken place during his reign. The barbaric attitudes and actions of himself and his followers is what led to him being found guilty of being uncivilized.

Buddhism is an ancient religion that originated from India and gradually traveled to China through cultural diffusion . Many of the Chinese people liked Buddhism, which was also referred to as a “barbaric religion” according to the traditionalist. The Chinese saw their society as sophisticated and superior to any of the new ideas coming from the advance trade routes throughout their country known as the Silk roads. Due to the fall of the Han Dynasty and it’s chaos that it created, Buddhism was a peaceful distraction that gave people optimism when their government failed because of corruption and political disunity. Before Buddhism religions such as Daoism and Confucianism were popular in China, because of Buddhism, followers of the traditional
Change is only possible when people want change. People called philosophes, well-educated people in the 18th century, explored their personal reasons on how to change the society the lived in. They believed that natural laws were the main key to understanding what we do and why we do it. The key to a better society was more freedom to do what we want. Taking that into consideration, individual freedom is the key to establishing a more effective government, economy, religous peace, and greater gender equality.
Ashoka was one of the third ruler of the Indian Mauryan empire. Ashoka was one of the greatest rulers of ancient India. Ashoka ruled from 268 BCE to 232 BCE. Ashoka was the grandson of Chandragupta maurya. Although ashoka was a ruthless ruler I would consider him as an Enlighted ruler because of these reasons.
Many people died at that battle and this changes Ashoka ’s mind to become a follower of Buddhism. He sent his children to Sri Lanka for spreading Buddhism
This cross-sectional study explored the changing field of vision of infants as they gain developmental postures—specifically crawling and walking. The purpose of this study was to define the difference in an infant’s visual field through use of head-mounted cameras in various postures to determine their visual field in order to associate field of visual with posture and to relate with visual experiences. This study incorporated two experiments in order to fully analyze the use of an infant’s vision field. The first part explored what spatial range infants see in each posture. The participants included 30 infants aged 13 months.
The thing that excites me the most about Babson is probably the extraordinary amount of business that is offered. With my four years of high school I’ve been able to determine that business is something I want to do. My problem is actually pinpointing a degree field that I want to go into.
