The Pacific War, also known as the Asia- Pacific War, started on December 7, 1941, when Japan launched a surprise attack on the United States Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor. When Japan attacked the fleet, they damaged it severely and prevented American interference with Japan’s military operations. The attack caused the United States to declare war. Japan started gaining military successes after the attack, that is, until the American victory at the Battle of Midway in June of 1942. Japan was forced to give up the island of Guadalcanal in February of 1943 after the U.S. attacked them in the Solomon Islands in August of 1942. In 1944, United began air attacks on Japan. Japan did the same. Despite the air attacks from Japan, the U.S. conquered Okinawa in mid-June 1945. On August 6, 1945, the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Japan in the city of Hiroshima. …show more content…

The war ended August 14, 1945, when Japan agreed to surrender, and American forces started to occupy Japan. The European War began when Germany attacked Poland because of a deal made between Germany and the Soviet Union. When Poland was defeated, they divided up the country. The war was fought between Germany and the Axis Powers against the United States and the Allied Powers. Great Britain and France declared war on Germany, but there wasn’t much fighting at first. April 9, 1940, Germany invaded Norway and Denmark, and later on invaded the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. Germany gained control of the Northern half of France after signing an agreement. The Soviet Union was allied with Germany until Germany invaded them on June 22, 1941. After that, the Soviet Union sided with the Allies.
