Wes Pomeroy was the head of security at Woodstock. The Story of Maci Kean When you think of people in a kid’s life, you probably imagine two parents, siblings, friends, and teachers. What you don’t typically think is a social worker, a judge, foster homes and a dead mother and father. This became the case for the then 15-year Maci Kean, as well as over 100,000 kids in the United States. Wow! I loved reading this play. After reading it initially, I was in awe due to how much I enjoyed it! It was even more interesting when I researched and found out Tennessee Williams wrote Vieux Carre based on similar interactions with the characters in this play. Yikes.
Civil rights activist Medgar Evers was born on July 2, 1925, in Decatur, Mississippi. In 1954, he was the first state field secretary of the NAACP in Mississippi. He organized voter-registration efforts, demonstrations, and economic boycotts of companies that practiced discrimination. He also worked to investigate crimes perpetrated against blacks. On June 12, 1963, Evers was assassinated outside of his home in Jackson, Mississippi.
She has inspired me to take on a similar role leading young girls. I am now in the process of assembling a mentoring program for teen girls called “WITHIN”. Amy Tan is a Chinese-American author who was born on February 19, 1952, in Oakland, California. In Tan’s early life she had many struggles because her parents desired for her “to hold onto Chinese traditions and her own longings to become more Americanized” (Encyclopedia). While she wanted to become a writer when she was still young, her parents wanted her to become a neurosurgeon. When she got older and went to college she majored in English then started her career in the 1970’s. She was a technical writer and then started writing fiction stories.
