Lastly, the story wouldn’t be a success if it wasn’t for its main characters Noah and Allie. Noah Calhoun is not only the narrator of the entire book, but he is also the main protagonist. He is perceived in the book as every woman’s ideal man. He’s faithful, idealistic, strong, good-looking, and helpful to all those in need. Noah represents true love, true faith, and true artistry. It shows by how he remains true to Allie in the book even though he might not ever see her again. Allie was a girl who wanted the best of both worlds. Growing up in the upper class in life she was always raised to think that money was and class was everything, that she was suppose to be a good wife and marry into a wealthy family in order to make herself look good. The first setback would be how class society dealt with the separation of the two. Back in the day and even today, wealthy parents did not want their children dating or marrying another who wasn’t in the same class or family didn’t come from the same lifestyle. In The NoteBook Allie came from a very wealthy family and Noah came from a poor working family. Her parents did not like the fact that he was not wealthy and insisted that Allie should leave him at once. When Allie refused and professed her love for him, Allie’s parents moved the whole family into the city so that Allie would never see Noah again. Class society still goes on today and can be related to by the few families that still believe in the wealthy being superior to the poor. The second setback would be the fourteen year separation that both Noah and Allie went through. Even today they’re many relationships where couples lose touch with each other and separate for long periods of time. Sparks shows that no distance is to far for love seeing as Noah and Allie had gotten back together. The third and final setback would be Allie’s fiance Lon Hammond. During those long fourteen years Allie was a nurse, tending to soldiers who were injured in the World War. She met Lon and the two instantly fell in love.
