David Émile Durkheim is the well-known sociologist who is well known and concerned to promote peace harmony and reconciliation. Émile Durkheim defined religion as "a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things, that is to say, things set apart and forbidden -- beliefs and practices which unite into one single moral community called a Church all those who adhere to them.". (Durkheim, 2008). To make a point Emile Durkheim believed that society was a religion and that “religion affected the establishment of society to such a degree that the two were inseparable.” (Durkheim, 2008).

The Influence of Religion The Gutenberg printing press, which printed the very first Bible in 1445, helped spread religion throughout the Holy Roman Empire, and other regions. The spread of the Bible caused perspectives to change regarding religion which led to the rebellion of peasants. It can be argued that religion had nothing to do with the revolt of peasants, however, the different point of views of whether or not peasants should be treated the same caused the peasant uprising in Germany from 1524 to 1525. Religion helped the peasants realize they should not be held as serfs anymore.
There are very many religions that exist in the world today. Religion plays such a major role in people’s everyday lives, and it’s not surprising why it is such a major focus in the way choices and decisions are made. Each of the world’s major religions has certain differences that set themselves apart from others and that make them unique. Most religions, however, all follow the same morals and guidelines that are quite similar to each other’s.
Like most things that are society based, religion has evolved alongside our own culture. America is a melting pot of different ethnic backgrounds and cultures making it a perfect place for religion to adapt and flourish. For this analysis, I am drawing from “Civil Religion in America” by Robert N. Bellah (1967) on his ideas of American civil religion. In the text Bellah (1967) argues that civil religion is an important dimension that needs to be recognized in sociology. While Bellah focuses specifically on the United States of America, he still gives a valuable perspective on civil religion and how it plays a part in religion as a whole.
The thought of progress is a phenomenon that is unquestioned of why it is happening within the world. Progress is the notion that a certain subject or object is being brought into a greater or better outcome than it was set at its predetermined state. With the thought of progress, there is no telling whether progress happens because of a Devine being setting a predetermined fate for the human public or by reflecting on the past and learning from past occurrences. With the set of practices also the beliefs in religion it gives society an understanding of the meaning and purpose of life. Christian religion is and has been a powerful shaper of sexual norms. Priests and monks are seen virtuous.

Every human being in one way or the other belongs to a particular religion. Since religion makes us worship one God then it should be binding all of us. Actually it is not, it rather tears people apart day in and day out .It is true that religion has influenced society positively in diverse ways, but the bad outweighs the good. Thus I think religion causes more harm than good to the society.
Sociology is the scientific study of human social relationships and interactions. Sociology 's subject matter is diverse. Subject matter for sociology ranges from the micro level of an individual and interaction to the macro level of systems and the social structure. At the society level, sociology examines and explains matters like crime and law, poverty and wealth, prejudice and discrimination, schools and education, business firms, urban community, and social movements. We can see these subject matters crystal clear as sociology ranges from crime to religion, from the family to the state, from the divisions of race and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture and from social stability to radical change in whole societies.
