Assess the impact of the introduction and overturning of Roe V. Wade on women’s reproductive rights in the USA.’ Although the establishment of Roe v. Wade was a turning point for women and their reproductive rights, the overturning of this legislation has deeply impacted women’s rights in the United States. The old Christian idea of a life being started from the moment of conception has prompted many of these decisions over the past 100 years. Reproductive rights are essential for women to maintain good health and wellbeing, as they significantly reduce the risk of numerous physical and mental health problems. These are fundamental rights, ensuring that women can make autonomous decisions about their bodies and lives. Prior to 1973 abortion was completely banned, and illegal ‘back alley’ procedures were the only option for many women. In the 1970s, the United States abortion laws were progressive enough to allow women to get safe abortions and reproductive rights. However, the reversal of Roe v. Wade has had a significant impact on women's autonomous rights in the United States, despite the fact that its establishment marked a turning point for women and their reproductive rights. Many women in states that are banning access to abortion are being denied basic human rights, that are also stated in the United States Constitution that can be seen in the 14th Amendment. Before 1973 women barely had any rights to their bodies, however as the people and government became more progressive, Roe v. wade was implemented as a way to allow abortion to all women. Though, sadly, in 2022 Roe v. Wade was overturned, eliminating women of any rights to their bodies. This also has endangered many women in the sense of financial, medical and mental health.
