For example, there are plays that can fall under dramas, musicals, or even comedies. Genre is a way to organize plays depending on views, plots, characters, settings and even dialogue. 2. Heroic Drama- Drama is a category under Genre, however, there are different types of dramas and Heroic Drama is an example of one. This is a play that is carries less mishaps, more happiness or even bittersweet moments. There is also more heroic events and usually have romantic storyline. 3. Melodrama- This drama is a play that consists of music and drama, however, it is not a musical. The music added is to create suspense and more emotion. The acting in this drama is exaggerated and the main outcome is to get the best of the audiences emotion. 5. Classical Tragedy- This a one of the oldest category type for tragedy and was first created in ancient Greece. All the characters are in high ranks, such as kings, hero’s, etc. The plays were written in verse and the leading character is a tragic hero. 6. Modern Tragedy- This type of tragedy has anti-hero character that has defects and lacks heroic characteristics, but still tries to do their best and be righteous. Play consists of common people instead of higher ranking characters and the protagonist can be a hero or anti-hero. Until this day modern tragedies are still written. 7. Low Comedy/ Slapstick/ Farce- This type of comedy is aimed mainly for kids and the main goal is for entertainment. Exaggeration is the key to make audience laugh and it consists of face-paced action and main focus is from head down. There is no main point or moral to be taught. 8. Domestic Comedy- This type of play is almost like domestic comedy because the audience can relate to either the characters or the situations. Plays are usually based on everyday struggles or situations such as work, family life, and how people associate to others. 12. High Comedy: Comedy of Manners- Playwright created by Oscar Wilde in which the play makes fun of manners of the upper class individuals. 13. High Comedy: Comedy of Ideas- Plays by George Bernard Shaw show importance of the conflict between ideas and the comical view is based on intellectual and grammar aspects. 14. Tragicomedy is also known as Dark Comedy because it makes the audience see the point of the play in a dark point of view. Mixes everyday struggles with comedy to make the audience emotionally confused. First they laugh and then they weep which causes people to realize that it’s a subject they probably wouldn’t be laughing at in the outside world. 15. Absurdism- This is the most current drama that was created in Europe in which contains absurd, unreasonable, random universe.
