SOURCE: On Sunday, January 3, 2016 at approximately 1900 hours, I received a telephone call from Sgt. John Sanzone, who told me there was a drive by shooting that had just occurred. Sgt. Sanzone assigned me as the CSI lead on this case. Sgt. Sanzone advised the shooting occurred at 2997 El Noble Avenue, Oroville, CA and that no one was hit, however, the scene needed to be processed. INVESTIGATION: I arrived at the scene and met with Officer Fuchs and Cherry who had secured the scene. Officer Fuchs told me he was the one who had put the crime scene tape. I asked Officer Fuchs to extend the crime scene tape out about another twenty feet in both directions so that way we had more room to work in. I made them two separate scenes do to the large amount of bullet holes in the residence and making it easier for The shell casings started the exterior scene, which were in middle of El Noble Avenue, and ended with the bullet holes in the exterior front wall, door, plastic chair, and front bedroom window. The exterior items were labeled 1-72 and seen in photos. This followed the shell casings in middle of El Noble Avenue, to front handrail, through front porch plastic chair, through the front door, front wall and front bedroom window. I began labelling the twenty nine spent shell casing lying in the street from north to south. The spent shell casing appeared to be brass. I looked closer at the head stamp of the shell casing. I observed the markings on the head stamp with “7.62x39” and MFS on them. Through my training and experience in law enforcement and as a gun enthusiast, I know this caliber is used by an AK-47 or SKS style of assault rifle. However, this cartage is not limited to just this two styles of assault rifles.
