The book starts off in England A.D 1377 with a 13 year old boy who went by the name of Asta’s son. When his mother died, he was given a huge problem. Unfairly, he was forced by the town steward, John Aycliffe, to use his only ox to pay his mom’s death tax leaving him with nothing to eat. Being so terrified, and confused he fled into the forest. When night came he realized that he was far from home and did not know where to go. Fortunately, he saw light and two shadows not too far from him and timidly followed it. Noticing the stranger hand a packet with red seals to John Aycliffe, he rose from the bushes to hear more. He and John’s eyes met and he started chasing after him with a sword.
