Although I am not necessarily into classical concerts, I really enjoyed the serene tone that Updike set in place when writing this poem. The poem gives off such an ‘at peace’ vibe and the way it is written, Updike’s thoughts are conveyed smoothly. The theme of this poem is appreciation for music because when Updike says, “that held the holy glowing fantasy together.”, we can clearly see that the way the instruments come together and the way they make him feel.
