Athos Chapter 49 Literary Analysis

To describe Athos in chapters 43 to 49, I would use the word “vicious”. Throughout the novel, Athos has been fairly tame, however, his personality changes upon finding that Milady, his wife whom he thought he killed, is alive and trying to murder d’Artagnan. Not only is Athos more vicious, but he is characterized as more involved. Both his viciousness and involvement are shown in Chapter 45 when Athos secretly visits Milady at an inn after the Cardinal held a meeting with her and was later escorted back to camp by Porthos and Aramis.
