On July 13, 1994, the city of Bellevue, Washington was shocked by a horrific crime. Tariq, Sultana, and Basma Rafay were all found beaten to death in their home with a baseball bat. Sultana was the first one murder with blood forced trauma to the head. Tariq was the second murdered, he was struck forty to fifty times and was beaten so badly that his facial features weren’t recognizable anymore. Basma was the third one murdered but she didn’t die at the scene. Once help arrived, they took her to the hospital where she later passed and took the secret of who killed her and her parents with her. The two men who had to come home to this terrifying sight were Sebastian Burns and the family’s only surviving member Atif Rafay, they are immediately turned into suspects in the crime. The Bellevue police took Sebastian and Atif on the night of the murder and put them into a motel where they were questioned for three days by police. They went and looked for them one day at the motel and they were gone. Big tactic to get the confessions, this tactic was illegal in the USA but at the time legal in Canada. Mr. Big is an investigation method used by undercover police to get confessions in cold cases. Police officers create a fake criminal society and then lure the suspect into joining it. They build a relationship with the suspect, gain their trust and then get them to help in doing criminal acts. Once the suspect has become involved in the criminal gang, they are persuaded to give information about the specific crime under investigation.
