The setting of the short story takes place in 1963, in New York, in a beautiful spring evening.There is a peaceful, idyllic and vibrant atmosphere in the streets. It’s a stunning evening and along the Third Avenue, people are outside smiling and waiting for the day to turn into the night. That's one of the many reasons the people love it. “The air was soft and beautiful, the sky was darkening by slow degrees from blue to the calm and violet of dusk. There are people who love the city, and this was one of the nights that made them love it. Everyone standing in the doorways of delicatessens and dry-cleaning shops and restaurants seemed to be smiling.”(P. 1, ll. 2-6).
