The United States kept what we know the atomic bomb in secret during the war. Thousands of Americans knew about it and kept it secret until it was time to use it in the war. The atomic bomb was tested in an empty desert near Alamogordo, New Mexico. Truman decided to use the bomb in war on July 25, 1945. On August 6, 1945 the US B-29 bomber named Enola Gay dropped the bomb code named “Little Boy” over Hiroshima, Japan. The bomb had collapsed most of the city within forty-three seconds. Was Bombing Japan the “smart” way to go? Americans were blindsided for the bombing of Pearl Harbor from the Japanese. Pearl Harbor was one of the biggest Naval bases on the Pacific. When tested the atomic bomb was visible from 180 miles away. It gave a blinding flash with a followed by a deafening roar that sounded like a shock wave. This was a good example of how frightening the atomic bomb seemed. Scientists could see the true strength and had a better idea of what the atomic bomb could do at war. President Truman believed bombing Japan would make them surrender and bring the war to an end. The bomb would weaken Japan and make them stop fighting. The Japanese did not surrender while at war they began to kamikaze which were suicide planes crashing into ships. This was an example of how much the Japanese was willing to do to win the war. Japan would have to realise sooner or later kamikaze was effective but is not the best option because they lose pilots. America dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima code named as “Little Boy” . Hiroshima contained an important military center for Japan. This bombing wiped out the city into dust in forty-three seconds. Japan did not surrender so three days after bombing Hiroshima America bombed Nagasaki with a second atomic bomb code named “Fat Man”. This bombing only left half of the city of Nagasaki.
