I thought that the main conflict was between the house of Atreides and the house of Harkonnens. The conflict was for the spice on the planet Arrakis as it is the most valuable trading source in the universe. The Harkonnens desired for the planet Arrakis while the Atreides got it. The Harkonnens would make plans to destroy the Atreides or have them hand Arrakis to them. However, the Atreides resisted and defended themselves from the Harkonnens. The climax was the part of the story that had the most action. I think that the climax of the story was when the Emperor and the Harkonnens invaded Arrakis. There could be one celebrity who is not as popular as the other and get labeled as an attention seeker, attacker, or just the “bad person” just because he/she is not as famous. The fans of the more popular person (who has more fans then the “less popular” person) would just almost automatically side with the more popular celebrity just because they are their fans. The better-known celebrity could also get more interviews where he/she could get everyone to think from his/her perspective and have the fans all biased to think that he/she is the good person. One of the themes are religion because the Bene Gesserit are familiar with many different languages and cultures, showing that there are many different religions in the world of Dune. Paul also learns and follows the culture of the Freman to survive in the desert. Power is also a theme of dune because the conflicts in the story were all for power. Paul was doing everything he could to have the most power possible, while the Harkonnens were making it harder for Paul by fighting Paul for the power he had. A less major theme was fear. In order to gain power, the characters had to make others fear them. With a lot of violence fear was felt throughout the story. Another less major theme is family. The different houses were different families and they fought as families to be the most powerful house. Paul and his mother had to fight for the house Atreides after Duke Leto died. Lastly, gender roles were a theme in the book because many of the different titles/roles were restricted to certain genders. For example, all the Bene Gesserit were women and all the “leaders” of the houses were men. Women would be married off for alliances or “assistants” and the men would be trained as
