A reflection of the research conference Attending the conference enlightened my view about using technology in nursing. Although I do not advocate for using technology heavily in classrooms, I went to the conference with an open mind and the possibilities discussed were enormous. There were three presentations by Molloy faculty and all three dealt with a different concept that is influenced by technology. Finnegan’s presentation discussed using social media to improve the professional image of a nurse. She especially talked about using LinkedIn to add relevant experiences, using endorsements to enhance the professional image as a nurse. She also gave tips to make LinkedIn account stand out as well to increase visibility among potential employees. Some of the ways are to join and actively partake in organizations such as Sigma Theta Tau and visit hospital pages and join any discussion that is going on. It is not sufficient to join American Nurses Association unless one is actively partaking in meetings and conferences. It is not wise to add ANA membership to add more information to one’s resume. She showed us pictures of her social media account and how the pictures represented professionalism. It is so important not to contradict one’s personal life with professional one, so it is advisable for people to create a different account for personal use. Since prospect employees are using social media for hiring purposes, it is so important to maintain a “clean” profile without any offensive content. She also spoke about the preparation for interviews such as wearing a pink blazer when going to interview for an obstetrics nurse position. I found this very interesting and I even encouraged my sister to wear blue shirt while going to DaVita, a dialysis center for an interview, as the company name is engraved in blue. Overall, the conference was so useful to me as it highlighted many aspects that I overlooked such as using social media to enhance career enhancement or tailoring technology to assess and treat patients. Also, it reminded me the role of nurses in patient education, even introducing and teaching to use technological innovations for their care. Overall, this conference made me aware that healthcare is ever transitioning into complex, patient-oriented
