When Scout and Jem are outside, they find a rabid dog and go to tell Calpurnia. Calpurnia calls the sheriff to come and deal with the dog before it hurts somebody. When the sheriff arrives, he brings Atticus with him. Atticus shoots and kills the dog, Tim Johnson, in one single shot to the head. Miss Maudie said, "Forgot to tell you the other day that besides playing the Jew's harp, Atticus Finch was the deadest shot in the Maycomb County in his time."
Change Atticus’ parenting style in the book is trustworthy and distant. Atticus is the father of Jem and Scout. He is also a lawyer. During the day the children are left to walk around town, and travel to school by themselves. This style contains some consequences in the future.
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, many different characters are compared to a mockingbird due to the fact that these characters show peacefulness and tranquility. Harper Lee states that: "Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs, the only thing they do is sing their hearts out for us, That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird” (Lee 93). This quote shows that a mockingbird is peaceful. This bird provides good qualities.
To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, narrates an unbiased, non-filtered, and innocent viewpoint from that of Scout Finch. If the novel were rewritten from another’s perspective (such as Jem’s or Atticus’), the main concept of the book would be altered. The narrative of Atticus Finch would influence less of an impact; his knowledge and experience with the town of Maycomb would weaken the depth of Tom Robinson’s case. Just like Scout’s—Jem’s outlook would also call attention to the problematic practice of racism. However, his sense of understanding the immorality of it is more mature than her.
Additionally, from other people’s perspective, Atticus has lost, his innocence because of him defending a Negro. However, it is not true because Atticus is a lawyer and he is doing his job without criticizing him. This incident made Scout ask Atticus that if it is right to defend a Negro. By this, Scout is able to gain the ability to look from new perspectives on how the world works in very early age compared to her brother, Jem and other children. Secondly, Jem is not completely disillusion until a guilty verdict is returned to Tom Robinson at the end of his trial.
The novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee changed the way our society perceives minorities. To Kill a Mockingbird unveiled the idea of good and evil being present in the same person. Lee revealed that it’s the person’s ability to choose right from wrong, and good from evil. To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel about a single father raising a son and daughter in the town of Maycomb, Alabama, around the time of the Great Depression. Jem and Scout are outside playing in front of their house when Jem saw the dog, he ran inside to get Cal, the kids’ housekeeper she immediately called Atticus and he brought the sheriff. The sheriff decides that he cannot shoot the dog because is not a very good shot, so he tells Atticus to take it. The author says “I haven’t shot a gun in thirty years --”(Lee 110) . Atticus knows that he had not shot a gun in a very long time knew, that Heck Tate was not going to shoot the dog because he was afraid he would miss. So even though he hadn’t shot in a while he took it anyway to make Heck Tate feel more
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR Human beings love themselves, but not each other. At least that’s what Harper Lee thinks. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Lee, using character personalities, dialogue, actions, and symbols, is saying that all around the world, human beings as people are not making enough effort to change their negative opinions on one another, rather we are sticking to our ignorant but comfortable mindsets because it is easier to do so. Also, she is urging us to change and become more understanding and considerate people.
“Why reasonable people go stark raving mad when anything involving a Negro (sic) comes up, is something I don’t pretend to understand.” A quote from Atticus Finch regarding African Americans in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. In the novel, Jem Finch undergoes a major change when Atticus is defending an African American man in court.
The title of the novel is become the symbolism. In the some part of the story, Elie described the setting in the night. It was close to midnight. Nobody felt like going to sleep, though some people briefly went to check on their homes.
TKAM: Atticus To Kill A Mockingbird is a fictional novel written by Harper Lee that takes place in Maycomb, AL 1930s with scout who is the narrator. During the beginning she was very nonthoughful about what she did. Later she changes the way she acts towards other like she didn't get in a fight when they kept calling her dad a niggerlover. In a way this shows how much she admires her father and how she finds him trusting and understanding.
In “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, children Jem and Scout Finch live in Maycomb County, Alabama, surrounded by a complex cast of characters that are prone to bigotry, greatly shaping the ideals and morals of the two as they mature. Both of the children change a great deal throughout the novel, making it easy to observe their views as they change throughout the novel. Catalysts to this change include their open-minded father, Atticus, prone to spouting wisdom to his children, helping them to apply this compassion to their lives. Jem and Scout grow substantially, by learning lessons of gradual acceptance, their beliefs, attitudes, and views of the world
For some reason the sheriff wants Atticus to shoot the dog, and that seemed fairly odd to Scout and Jem because they thought their father didn’t know how to. Atticus finally took the gun and walked cautiously to the middle of the street. He then raised the gun and pulled the trigger. Atticus hit the dog right between they eyes. Scout and Jem were shocked when they found out that their father was One Shot Finch.
In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, bluejays, mockingbirds, and finches are all mentioned. As Atticus says, each bird has its own unique purpose or song, just like people do. As the title suggests, mockingbirds are innocent creatures and it is a sin to kill them for a personal gain. People can be compared to mockingbird because people can be killed spiritually, physically or emotionally. Three people from the book that come to my mind as mockingbirds that sing their own unique song are Atticus Finch, Boo Radley, and Scout Finch.
Atticus does not like to impress people. He’s not like Aunt Alexander, how she likes to brag about everything. Atticus likes to keep it to himself. Finally Jem was embarrassed to be like his dad, but that has all changed. Jem did not know much about his dad he thought he was old and could not do anything.
