Atticus Finch Harper Lee's novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, was told from the first person perspective of Scout, Jean Louise, Finch was a unique blend of Scout´s younger and older self. The setting of the book takes place in Macomb, Alabama in the time period of the Great Depression in the 1930’s. Macomb was in the south so many people were racist and not very smart. The town of Maycomb was very small; it only had so many jobs and people that live in it. Atticus Finch was a very wise, clever, and compassionate man who demonstrates the theme of hero, role model, and knowledge and education through mostly the second half of the book but in some places in the first half. Atticus Finch, the protagonist of the book, was introduced in the first chapter of the book. First of all Atticus was a round character because he was very important through the whole story first being introduced in paragraph one and mostly appearing in all of the chapters. Atticus also played a big part in the trial for Tom Robinson and just in general of the story. Second of all he was a static character because he was mostly the same throughout the whole story not really changing. Since Atticus was a lawyer he had to be very clever about the details about the case. “Did you call a doctor, Sheriff? Did anyone call a doctor?” Lee 224, Atticus caught many clues and was also very attentive during the case. Atticus was also very compassionate, he cared for everyone around the town. “I looked around. They were standing. All around us and in the balcony on the opposite wall, the [people of color] were getting to their feet." This showed that people respect him for taking Tom’s case.
