Atticus Finch is portrayed as a basically ideal father. He does everything he can be be a good father for Jem and Scout, and above all he wants to teach them right and wrong with love and reasonable discipline. He is fair when dealing with listening to them and reprimanding them. Atticus doesn’t lie to his children or try to dumb things down for them. He tells them the truth, especially when they directly ask him things. He spends a lot of time simply reading aloud and teaching them things, too. Atticus is a very morally sound human being. He believes strongly in what he views as right and wrong, but he also respects everyone else to have their own opinion on how things should be. He wants to instill that sense of right and wrong and also respectful attitude into his children, and in part one there are multiple lessons he teaches them with. …show more content…

When Atticus first catches them playing the game recreating things from the Radley’s life, Atticus doesn’t say anything, but instead gives the kids a stern warning. Later though, when he catches them trying to put the note through the Radley’s window, he tells the children to leave Boo alone, and that he has a right to stay in his house if he wants to. He tries to get across to the children that just because not everyone lives like them, that doesn’t mean they have a right to go around harassing them.
