Who is Atticus: By Asa Forest To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee takes place in the 1930’s in the small country town of Maycomb Alabama. One of the main protagonists Atticus Finch was a single father to Jem and Jean (called Scout) Finch. Atticus was a profound lawyer who is known around the town for his status in law. Atticus, like most people also has flaws like not showing his emotions towards anyone in the town or anyone at all. Although Atticus demonstrated a higher degree of racial tolerance and fearlessness, he is in fact, a flawed character who is in fact feeble and unable to be a normal father. Atticus’ like everyone has weaknesses. Although, his weaknesses easily are outshined by his strengths. One of his strong suits is the …show more content…

They are common, gruesome and nightmares for and blackman or woman in that town. Atticus wasn’t part of a lynch mob nor was he for having them around. At the jail, the night before Tom’s trial, Atticus sat outside in a chair and read to Tom so he wouldn't be killed by the lynch mob. The mob drove up to Atticus and the jail cell with Tom inside and Atticus stood up for Tom. Even when he knew the potential danger that could’ve happened at any time during this contact with them. “He in there mr Finch?” a man said. “he is,” we heard Atticus answer, “and he’s asleep. Don’t wake him up.” (Lee 202) This shows that in a situation where you can die, Atticus doesn’t back away. Even when fear slapped him across the face, he won’t back down. He stood for what he believed in and fought with words instead of physical violence. Atticus in the same situation showed the mob that he won’t back down and told them to leave. “you know what we want,: another man said. “Get aside from the door, Mr. Finch.” “You can turn around and go home again, walter,” Atticus said pleasantly. (Lee. 202) To anyone in this situation they would obviously be nervous and probably be very uncomfortable.
