In the book To Kill a Mockingbird which has been widely banned across America one character stands out. That character is Atticus Finch. In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee explores the concept of moral courage, and in Atticus, gives the model of a perfect human being, a Christ-like man of courage, integrity, and compassion. Harper Lee illustrates that Atticus Finch is a Christ-like figure. Atticus has an exchange with Bob Ewell.
Jean Louise Finch, commonly known as Scout, is the young and feisty narrator in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Scout is the youngest Finch of her family. She lives in a small town called Maycomb County with her brave brother Jem Finch, her intelligent father Atticus Finch, and Calpurnia who is the caretaker and housekeeper for Scout’s family. In Maycomb Scout also shares a best friend with her brother, his name is Dill. He comes to visit Maycomb every summer from Mississippi and stays with his aunt Rachel.

Atticus Finch’s decision to defend Tom Robinson is questionable as Atticus had endangered the lives of family and friends, but on the other had Atticus was best fit for the job and the only lawyer who had a chance to help Tom. Atticus from to To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee in 1960, was the father of Jem and Scout; the main protagonists. They had lived in an imaginary town called Maycomb set in Southern Alabama in 1930 in the years of the great depression when poverty was great in much of the country. Atticus had a court case for Tom Robinson, who had been filed for rape by Bob Ewell.
In the book, to kill a mocking one of the main characters is Atticus Finch. He is a respected lawyer in Maycomb County, Alabama. He is the father of Jem and Scout Finch. Throughout the book, he faces the problem of representing a black man, Tom Robinson, in a rape case. Before, during and after the case, Atticus Finch always puts parenting first and is constantly trying to teach them lessons and values.
Atticus Finch is very intelligent and well-respected by many. He is a good father to Scout and Jem. He is a man who’s going to fight for what he believes and sticks to it no matter the outcome. Atticus is very influential not only in his community but on his children as well. Atticus strongly believes that all should be treated equally.
In this book, Atticus Finch is a loving father who is raising two children, Jem and Scout. He is often a misunderstood individual and is frowned upon by many in his town. By looking at the examples of Atticus Finch’s parenting style, it can be seen how he is a good, loving father to his children who teaches them the proper way in which they should go. An important aspect to consider when deciding if Atticus Finch is a smart and loving father to his children is to examine some examples from the book To Kill a Mockingbird.
Atticus being the good father he tries to instill some morals into his children by teaching them life lessons. He prepares the children for adult life when issues such as racism, and discrimination are part of a daily routine and teaches them how to be good people. Atticus also tries to teach the children to treat everybody with respect. He tells Jem that" I have no doubt that you've been annoyed by your contemporaries about me lawing for niggers, as you say, but to do something like this to a sick old lady is inexcusable." (11.43).
As Atticus has explained to Scout many times, Atticus values justice and equality. He also believes that everyone is equal. Just because Tom Robinson is black, that doesn’t mean Atticus shouldn’t defend him simply for that reason. As Atticus says to Scout, if he defend Mr. Robinson, then he couldn’t tell his children, Jem and Scout, not to do something. He says and does this to set an example for his children to follow, because if he expects them to do or follow something, then he must display it to them first.
Atticus Finch is portrayed as great parent in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The way Atticus Finch acts at home and on the streets provide a good role model for Jem and Scout. He is a parent who always does the right thing and stays true to himself and to his children at all times. Atticus is a positive role model for his children because he is the same character wherever he goes and whoever he talks to. When Scout misinterprets Miss Maudie’s words she attempts to defend his father about how he does not do anything at home different than what he would do at work.
Atticus is a good father because he will explain everything. During the story Atticus explains to Scout what a compromise is. He told Scout the importance of compromising and how she
Atticus leads by example for his children, especially when interacting and speaking with the other Maycomb citizens. He has a subtle, yet impactful influence on Jem and Scout while conversing with others. He reveals to his children how to be a good host and connect with someone when he has a conversation with Walter Cunningham. Atticus and Walter talk about farming, which is a topic that makes Walter feel included and welcome. Scout may have applied this lesson when she found Mr. Cunningham in the mob outside the prison and asked him about his entailment.
A black man in the story named Tom Robinson was blamed for raping a white woman. Tom was not alone in the trial, Atticus Finch was there to defend him. Atticus taught both of his children, Scout and Jem, that discrimination was not right, even if they were a of a different race. Atticus said, "Serving on a jury forces a man to make up his mind and declare himself about something. Men don't like to do that.
Atticus Finch as a parent is kind of different from most. He treats his children different than other parents may treat their kids. He treats them with honesty and as they are grown adults. He uses good timing to find have an opportunity to teach Scout and Jem good values he wants to pass down to them. Scout says that " 'Do you really think so? '
