Observation
During my observation I learned more than I believed that I would. I even got to help out. Shannon, our school’s athletic trainer, told us about injuries she typically sees. Also stuff about what she does on a daily basis. Plus she let us know about what she would if someone got hurt.
Here at Sheyenne High School there are too many sports and activities to list. Some of those sports and activities are track, football, basketball, dance, swimming, and soccer. Although, there are sports that have less injuries occur than others. Shannon informed us that she sees less of tennis and golf players than any other sport.
The most common injuries she sees are ankle sprains and knee injuries. Even the smallest of injuries can cause more serious problems in the future if not treated properly. In order to get back into the game, do your rehab and do not rush it. For example, shin splints can turn into a stress fracture. In order to get back to play you have to do the rehab, but be careful not to rush it due to the fact that your body needs time to readjust and get back to normal. The length of time someone does rehab all depends on the injury. If it required surgery, it could be months before it is back to normal. With an exception to football, the athletic trainers at our school do not travel with the team to away games. The process for preparing for games depends on the sport and if it is a home or away game. Either way the athletic trainers prepare water bottles for the team. For home games the trainers are there watching the game so they prepare more things. They have to get the carts with the water ready, and they keep ice available too. Along with a table in case the hurt person cannot make it to the trainer’s room. Other items they have with include an AED and a blood
