A Child Called “It” by Dave Pelzer , is a memoir about “ a young boy who was beaten , starved and tortured by his mother , yet he managed to turn his life around “ (Barta). What is shocking about Dave’s story is that he is the only one out of his siblings that got abused. Written as an adult , Dave felt like he could expose his expressions and feelings. Also , he wanted to help others so they wouldn’t feel alone. This true story compromises what has been termed one of the worst cases of child abuse ever discovered As his mother fell to mental illness and alcoholism, he became substitute for her anger and rage towards his father.
His family begins to spend a large amount of time in hiding, due to the fear of Saul or his siblings being taken by the residential school. Over time, both of his siblings are taken, attributable to the schools need to remove the “Indian” from the Canadian culture. This brings sadness and anger on his entire family. At a young age, he too is seized by members of the school, where he faced sexual, cultural and verbal abuse.
Although there are some students that associate the school with happiness, there are certainly a greater amount that don’t, being the reason that many students were damagingly abused and will be scared for a long duration of their life. The meals that were provided by the school were in small quantity and disgusting, the clothes often did not provide the children with proper protection in the winter and were rarely well fitting. She experienced a less innocent view of the world than the children in her life. Isolation can bring out the best in people, like the boy’s constant desire to not become like the bad guys that eat people. When they boy and his father are going to sleep after a long day the boy asks the dad “Are we still the good guys?”, in which the father reassuringly responds yes(77). The kid is worried about becoming bad and becoming what the other people are like, which is a good mentality because no human should succumb to what the groups are doing. The father and son have an unspoken pact, this pact is that if one dies the other will too. This is expressed by the father when he says “that you won’t survive for yourself.

Even after their emancipation, African Americans struggled with exclusion, whether it be direct, indirect, political, social or other. James Baldwin, an African American man, contrasts the types of oppression he, and others, have faced in “A Letter to my Nephew” , drawing parallels from slavery to the discrimination of the 60’s. He explains how many think blacks must assimilate into “white” culture, but, in reality, it must be those who think that way who must escape from the mentality of needing to assimilate.
Explain the reasons why children and young people’s development may not follow the expected pattern: The reasons why children and young people’s development may not follow the expected patters is due to them maybe having a disability, emotional influences, physical influences, environmental influences, cultural influences, social influences, learning needs and communication skills. Children with disabilities require a lot more support than those without a disability in order to help them develop their skills and become more independent. Disabilities can affect more than one area of a child’s development depending on what disability they have and what support is available in order to help improve the child’s needs etc. Emotionally children are affected due to them maybe having signs of depression where they are quiet than the rest of the children and they shy away from joining in with different activities and getting involved with other children.

Through this, we can see the dangers of being disconnected from others and its adverse effects on one's well-being. Both works show how being isolated from society can lead to monstrous behavior and undesirable transformations in the characters. Isolation is a feeling that people get whenever they are alone or cut off. It makes you, in a way, go crazy. After all, people are made to be together.
During this developmental interview, I chose to conduct an observation/interview study with my one of my cousin’s child. This child is a 4 year old girl and will be identified as “child K” in relation to her first name. Her parents had no problem letting me interview her, but I had them stay in the same room as us. The purpose of this interview was to observe the child’s physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development. I observed her behavior and gave her several tests to show how well she has progressed.

Routines will support the physical care needs of children. It should provide a predictable and well-ordered environment, children know what to expect. They are comforting and provide regularity, especially for babies as they enable them to adjust to their own body rhythms.
Camus conveys to the reader that in Oran there were ‘violent extremes of temperature’ which illustrates the harsh living conditions at the time of the war. He conveys that though countries may be at war and individuals may be suffering and dying due the Plague, the weather may not always correspond to this. This is because the weather, and humanity as a whole are indifferent to the struggle of others. Camus also shows that there was a lack of passion and love in the town itself as he says ‘everyone is bored, and devotes himself to cultivating habits’ (Camus 4). Through the course of the novel, we see that people come to love and care for their loved ones when there is an increase in hardship and struggle.
