The Great Life Of Audrey Hepburn By: Kate Hodson Parks; #9 Audrey Hepburn was an iconic superstar of the 20th Century. Hepburn was nominated for 5 Academy Awards, and received one for the 1953 film of Roman Holiday. All of these things led up to Hepburn being the most beloved actress of her time. Although, it was her role in the classic film Breakfast at Tiffany’s as the classy, but sassy character, “Holly Golightly” that made her a true icon to everyone. Are you ready to hear the rest of her story? Audrey Hepburn was born on May 4, 1929 in Brussels, Belgium. She began to attend an English boarding school at a young age. This was because “her father believed that the most important necessity for a child’s life, is a good education”. (Biography.com; 2016) Hepburn had a strong family as a child, who would later influence her greatly. Her mother was an aristocratic Dutch, and her father was an English businessman. She also had two half brothers. She had a huge great love for dance from the time she learned to walk. Hepburn studied ballet in Amsterdam, and later in London. She helped the Resistance, even though her parents were Nazi sympathizers. She would put on secret concerts to raise money, and would also carry secret messages in her ballet slippers. Though Hepburn was an amazing aid during the the war, she still had as much of a struggle as anyone else. She suffered of malnourishment, which caused different illnesses throughout her life.
