In the essay “Unhappily Ever After,” Augusten Burroughs focus on unhappiness to a great extent because he is an unhappy person and he, as many people, happiness is something that he would always look for. He says that saying “I just want to be happy” is a way to say that we are not happy and that we are looking for that happiness to fulfill us as human beings.
