At this time many Australia’s were scared of communism which was in Asia, when Australia commitment to Vietnam increased to a regular army battalion in 1965 there was a negative reaction. News got around that Australia would contribute a task force to the war in 1966 which caused a massive outrage of Anti-war groups. One of them is SOS which stands for save our sons. SOS is a group which was established in 1965 in Sydney but soon other groups performed under the SOS banner across the country. Both men and women became members of SOS but for the most part SOS was generally made up of middle class and middle aged women whose sons were old enough to be subjected to the national service. Other groups like this are drift resistance movement, students for a democratic society, the Monash pacifist society and the youth against conscription. These groups used to setup marches and protests and make posters to express their emotion and feelings. Also there were groups who wanted the war like the democratic labour party. They where an anti-communist party which was founded in a result of a split in the Australian labour
