INTRODUCTION This executive summary provides an explanation of a recognised professional body for the Property profession and analyses the needs, costs and benefits of skilled individuals obtaining membership. The Australian Property Institute (API) was chosen as a body for research. Overall, joining the organisation is not compulsory but found to be highly advantageous and respected by property professionals and companies. The preceding concept maps outline the points answered throughout this report for the presentation to stakeholders. For a Student membership, no certification is required except proof of current enrolment into an API approved course. Certification/Academic requirements are divided into categories of API accredited courses, non-accredited qualifications and experience, and 10 years+ relevant experience. One or a combination of these requirements must be demonstrated in order to qualify for membership to API. The Code provides “a framework for professional conduct and aims to provide assistance” (Australian Property Institute 2015). Any rule that is not complied with is a breach of The Code and therefore an individual is subject to investigation. The rules in The Code are listed in sections: relations with clients, conflict of interest, impartiality, members and the API, property valuations, student and provisional members and non-compliance. The code of ethics is instilled in a module costing $55 for members to access online, however ethics are also outlined and discussed within the Code of Conduct. SERVICES The API provides many sources of learning and networking for its members as a method of sharing property related information, providing educational courses in the property field and acknowledge and awarding professionals who have contributed to the property field. Some of the services provided are: ● API member news & Australian and NZ journal ● Career centres for future or current property professionals ● Excellence in property awards ● Interest groups ● Benefit
