Gallipoli Campaign (Battle of Gallipoli) Australian soldiers and the Gallipoli Campaign The Gallipoli Campaign was a campaign in World War I that took place in Gallipoli Peninsula in between the 25th April 1915 and the 9th January 1916. This report will describe the main reasons of the campaign, details about the battle, living conditions during the campaign, health issues/problems and the mateship between the Australian soldiers. The aim of the Gallipoli Campaign The main purpose of the Gallipoli campaign was to capture the Turkish empire and control over the Constantinople, also known as the Turkish capital. The reason why Australians sent to fight because they were ordered to, it was considered ANZACs ‘duty’ to fight for Britain because they were also part of the empire. If the Australians and New Zealanders did not help they would still end up fighting in World War I, it was easier to move ANZAC troops to Turkey than it was to get Britain down there. The main Turkish trench line got captured by Australians. The first few hours, the Turkish was protecting their trench line. The battle lasted for 3 days, to regain what the Turkish had lost they provide reinforcement and had plenty of counter attacks. As the Australians were been attacked they thought of two fresh battalions. The Turkish stopped further attempts on August 9 and on August 10th the war had officially stopped.
