2.5 Conclusions Derived from Primary Research With the large number of responses the primary research received, valid conclusions can be made. Authoritative parenting which is considered the most beneficial is what the majority of both mothers and fathers display, alongside this authoritative parenting is what youth today see themselves applying to future children. The mental illness with the highest volume of people were depression and anxiety with relatively equal, smaller amounts of people in all other mental illness excluding schizophrenia which has no environmental causes. Teaching melancholic children how to express feelings by modelling it themselves is important.
Phlegmatics and melancholics both tend to lack communication and are both naturally quiet. If the parent doesn’t “draw out” their child they may withdraw further and the parent can feel discouraged.
Phlegmatic Child
Phlegmatic children won’t show excitement for things the sanguine parent would consider fun and hiding any discouragement from this is best. Both the parent and child would struggle with organization so the parent must model self-discipline.
Choleric parents will tend to make decisions for the passive phlegmatic child. It is essential to avoid that by teaching phlegmatic children responsibility and using calm words.
Phlegmatic children need encouragement which doesn’t come naturally to melancholic parents.

Determining a parenting style that will work universally without flaw is not a possibility. Preventing mental illness through parenting is about education about what to look for in children that will determine how parents should interact with them. It is not about standardizing parenting but about making it so unique and customizable based on a child’s individual emotional needs. Through educating generations who are parents-to-come, parenting can be altered from its current model into a one that takes child temperament and love languages into consideration. Making parents self-aware of their habits and their own temperaments can help them cater to their child’s needs by understanding what steps they need to take to nurture the natural traits in their child.
