“When people in authority want the rest of us to behave, it matters-first and foremost-how they behave” (Gladwell 207). I think the main objective of those who are higher up in power must be the ones to set examples. We as citizens are expected to follow rules and procedures. Also, having a say in the world is important along with treating society the same as a whole. As people, most of us believe actions speak louder than words. I would definitely rather be shown than told something over and over again. So, when a president states they’re going to do this and that for our country, I want to believe that’s what’s going to happen. Furthermore, those in authority deal with lots of pressure. Some of us have high expectations for others, which we are occasionally or majority of the time left disappointed. In the past, I was really let down by this person I called a “best friend”. I could no longer depend on her because of the lies she fed my other friends, while she talked behind my back, and somehow I always got in the most trouble with her, yet I was the older figure that was required to be a role model. Her mom loved my personality and she knew I had goals. She would continuously claim that I was such a good friend to her daughter, but one day my “best friend” got caught in a lie, therefore I had no reason to fib to an adult. I didn’t want to throw that friendship away, but her trying to pressure me into lying to her mom killed me. I needed to step up to the plate and show I was an honest person, in which her own daughter was not. I see that reputation is a significant factor because that’s how people achieve higher statuses.
