Autobiographical Statement – Kim Phung

My journey of becoming a secondary teacher has always been an aspiration that solidified itself throughout my years of post-secondary education and simply being in school. Starting from my years in Elementary, I would receive numerous comments and encouragement from my most-looked up to teachers stating that I would be someday one of them. I can still recall the times that I would approach my way of learning by making my own worksheets for English classes. When it came down to finally choosing my post-secondary faculty in high school, there was no doubt in my mind that Education was what I wanted most. I became aware of student prior knowledge and the various strategies that can be implemented in classroom management. Nonetheless, carrying this enthusiasm and acquired knowledge into my IFX and AFX was undeniably done.

During my IFX and AFX, I integrated and tested many of the strategies that were explained throughout my courses in university, to only then realize that some would apply and work for some classes while others would not. It depended on countless variables, such as the school environment and the structure of the classroom, to even the subject itself. Despite these conditions, I still managed to maintain a strong rapport with the students, in which many became comfortable by asking me for any suggestions or improvements towards their work. Despite the uncommon combination of my specializations in university, I have found the love for both. I became fascinated with concepts such as DNA, the mechanics of the body, and adaptation within animals, which all drew me into Biological Sciences.
