What Are Action Movies? Action movies, such as spider man and batman returns, often use the least stereotypical action figure to play the role of a hero. Action movies almost always consist of scenes where the villain, or enemy, is trying to connive their way into getting whatever they want, while the hero, usually the main characters, comes to save the day. Furthermore, action films also use fighting scenes to add excitement. The fighting scenes and stunt effects is what gives the action movies its whole existence. Without the “action” in the movies, there is no action genre. The high energy is a significant factor when classifying a film under this genre. By using multiple characters, Josh Whedon helped to establish a different feel during each scene depending which character was in it. This is a new style for action films and is one of the first of its kind. This effect adds more action because each character has their own way of fighting, and/or saving the day. Additionally, each time the avengers would show up somewhere there would be an obstacle for them to have to fight through. As they tried to get through each hurdle and achieve their objective the film added different effect to make the movie more exciting. You see the hulk destroying a city, when suddenly the music changes to a super hero themed tune and Iron Man appears. This exaggerates his appearance to the scene and gives the viewer a feel of what the citizens in the movie may feel, a sense of protection. You see everyone running, like in many action movies fighting scenes, as the hero and villain prepare to fight. He traps him in a “cave shield” when suddenly it gets silent and big bangs start to come from the inside of the cave; adding further excitement and maybe even frightening the viewer, just as the citizens were frightened at this moment in the fight scene. The hulk ends up busting out of it and the music speeds up again, letting us know there is more action about to begin. The police officer tries to kill him using guns but none of them work. Iron man tries to calm him down but instead a fight breaks out between them. They throw, slam, and punch each other in the middle of the street in the city. The movie exaggerates the sound of each slam and adds that “jump” to the movie and again more thrill. The entire scene, the camera angles are moving rapidly to increase the scenes “kick”. The music in the background begins to resemble the super hero themed music again. As Iron Man and The Hulk are fighting Iron Man throws The Hulk off of him, and mid throw they slowed down the scene.
