The Mayan, Incan and Aztec are generally considered influential societies, but there is still sound debate on whether or not they should be considered civilizations. Seeing as these Early Americans had much of the same qualities as modern civilization and in fact laid the groundwork upon which we have built our own great civilization, it's fair to say they were worthy of the title civilization. However, not only where these people befitting of the honorific of civilization, their great accomplishments actually validate them to the point of being considered advanced. Religion, architecture, and intellectual achievements, are all tell-tale signs of an advanced civilization, and the Incan, Mayan, and Aztecs were comprised of these and much more. …show more content…
The Mayan had a form of writing similar to the Egyptian Hieroglyphics called glyphs. They are also known for their infamous 365 day calendar which accurately mapped out days and dates all the way up to May of 2012. This is evident of the fact that they also studied astronomy seeing as the calendar is based off the Earth’s revolution around the sun. The Aztecs, as technologically lacking as they were, were able to perform rudimentary brain surgery. To put this in perspective, in this day and age, for someone to be able to do what they were able to requires upwards of 20 years of schooling, and that's with the technological advantage. The Aztec were also able to build canals and reservoirs, again without the use of the wheel and the strength of pack animals. The Incas were innovative in their own right. The Inca were the progenitors of suspension bridges and terrace farming, which are just a few of their many accomplishments. The Inca were also able to grow over 3,000 varieties of potato, which is indication of their agricultural genius. The list of intellectual feats of these early Americans seemingly goes on forever, which should be more than enough reason to consider them
